Race #6, the final race of the 2011 Summer Race Series, was run under beautiful blue skies and the racers were all smiles at the start. Mike Scott shot clean and raced away from everyone for another Sport Class victory and Hayden Bove hit 7 out of 10 on the range to take the Expert win while many of the usually hot shooters were getting dizzy in the penalty loop.
The race was followed by a raffle of scrumptious pies, shooting awards and ribbons for the top three in each series class that had entered at least 2 races. Danielle Bean, Paul Charron, and Andy Holt didn't miss a race and were rewarded with first place in their class. Chris Johnson and Gahlord Dewald also duked it out every Thursday with Chris eeking out the overall win at the last race. Andrea Larosa and Amy Laverack both showed all the promise of becoming expert biathletes with competitive racing, improving shooting and an infectious enthusiasm.
For many of us the best part of this race series is seeing all the old friends and making new friends each week. I hope we will see all of them at the bike biathlon October 15th or the Winter Race Series in January/February 2012, or if your not busy, joining us at the Nationals at the end of the month. Thanks to everyone for the being safe, doing all of your penalty laps without us counting, great attitudes and patience, helping to pick up after races, the many happy smiles when the targets turn white, cheers for your competitors, sharing the sport of biathlon and sharing your pies.
Happy shooting!
